Burrowing Owls Are a Threatened Species

Dear Neighbors,

We would like to make everyone aware that there is an active Burrowing Owl nest located on the old Evergreen Golf Course.

Burrowing Owls are a protected species in the State of Florida due to habitat loss and declining populations. These small, ground-dwelling owls are unique and play an important role in our ecosystem by helping control insects and rodents.

⚖️ Protected by Law

Under Florida law, it is illegal to harm, harass, or disturb Burrowing Owls, their nests, or their eggs.

🚫 Please Do Not:

  • Approach or attempt to handle the owls
  • Disturb or block access to the nest burrow
  • Allow pets to roam near the nesting area
  • Place objects or debris near the burrow

💰 Fines & Penalties

Violations can result in significant fines, typically ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars, and may include additional legal penalties under state and federal wildlife protection laws.

🌿 Why This Matters

Protecting these owls helps preserve Florida’s natural wildlife and ensures future generations can enjoy seeing them in our community.

If you notice any disturbance or have concerns, please contact Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) 1-888-404-FWCC

Thank you for helping keep our community and wildlife safe!

STARability News

In 2023 STARability applied to Collier County for “conditional use” approval to tear down the  clubhouse, pool and tennis courts located at Lakewood Country Club. However, it was announced in March 2024, that they found their new home in North Naples. Visit the below link for more details.
